Murder And Vehicular Homicide in Louisiana

Sanchez Burke has represented clients charged with vehicular homicide and murder, including capital murder cases. They believes that everyone accused of these serious crimes deserves a strong and effective defense.

Murder and vehicular homicide cases may require a team approach. We will discuss with you the need for experts or other professionals to combat the vast government resources available to the prosecution. These experts come from various professional disciplines, including firearms experts, forensics experts, crime lab professionals, social service workers, psychologists and others. These professionals may be able to cast doubt on the state’s evidence and provide alternative interpretations of test results. We will also work to humanize the accused and dispel preconceptions that jury members may hold.

Committed To Professionalism

Our founder, Walter M. Sanchez, has been a member of the faculty of the LSU Law School Trial Advocacy Training Program since 1993, teaching trial skills to third year law student in one of the most highly respected student advocacy training programs in the country.

In 1998, he was elected President of the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and, in 2007, received the association’s highest honor, the Justice Albert Tate, Jr. Award.

Since 1999, as the result of his knowledge and experience, the Louisiana Supreme Court has appointed him, on an as-needed basis, to serve as Judge Pro Tempore for Sulphur City Court. The Court has also appointed him to numerous board and committees seeking to improve the criminal and civil justice system of the state. In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, he helped draft legislation that provided a system for the relocation and continued operation of the state’s civil and criminal justice system in the case of future catastrophes. Walt has worked with lawyers from across the country and state to improve Louisiana’s chronically underfunded and overloaded indigent defense system. In 2007, he helped craft legislation that resulted in the complete restructuring of the Louisiana indigent defense system, a bill which is being looked to as a model for systemic reform in other states.

We understand the defense process and knows firsthand the challenges facing attorneys in homicide cases. They will work vigorously to protect the accused person’s rights and freedom.
